In the world of CBD we find a great variety of species rich in CBD however, when referring to Hemp Buds, these are the queens of cannabis. ¿Why?
Well, Hemp is a type of cannabis sativa plant, and hemp buds are the flowers of the hemp plant. These buds hold high concentrations of cannabinoids compared to the stalk, leaves and roots of the plant. CBD-rich hemp buds offer an alternative to CBD oil as a source of CBD that can be smoked, vaped or used to make edibles and ingested.
In the context of hemp buds, CBD richness is referring to the CBD content of a cannabis strain. A ‘CBD-rich’ strain has been specially bred to contain a high-CBD content but low-THC content, allowing it to be sold legally across America and other countries. At this stage, 113 different cannabinoids have been isolated from the cannabis plant. CBD and THC are the predominant two, followed by CBDa, THCa, THCv, CBC, CBCa, CBG and CBGa among many others.
The next list of strains of hemp contain high concentrations of CBD but strictly less than 0.3% THC, allowing them to be shipped across America. They are unavailable to those outside the USA.
|List of Hemp Buds|
|Cascade CBD Flower||14.39%||-3% Delta 9 THC.|
|Pineberry CBD Flower||17.03%||-3% Delta 9 THC|
|CBD Strain: Otto||14.4%||-3% Delta 9 THC|
|CBD Strain: Elektra||15.4%||-3% Delta 9 THC|
All the hemps have a curious and unique fact, which makes them different among them; not only the level of CBD they contain, some have a particular smell and others are more known for their medicinal properties.
Otto, originally named One to One, is a sativa dominant strain with varying genetics, which means that Otto crops have varying cannabinoid concentrations depending on where they are sourced. It is known for relieving inflammation, pain, spasms, stress and headaches.
Elektra strains produce very aromatic and dense flowers. Electra is a cross breed between the famous ACDC strain and ERB. Know for relaxing effects and for relieving for stress and pain
ACDC: is a sativa-dominant strain containing 19% CBD with a THC:CBD ratio of 1:20.
Genetic alteration in Hemp Buds.
The process involves years of genetic selection and crossbreeding between plants that possess desired traits for generations.
In addition to different amounts and ratios of THC, CBD and other cannabinoids, breeders are also looking to manipulate many other traits, including:
- Plant size and yield
- Adaptability and resistance to disease
- Productivity and seed production
- Flower traits, such as their shape, color, size, aroma, flavour and resin quality
100% natural vs Synthetic CBD
It is practically impossible to create fake buds because they are cut directly from the cannabis plant, it is like getting the sweet honey from the honeycomb, it comes with all and shell.
Because CBD has gained a massive amount of attention in the recent years due to its medical properties, some companies are trying to profit off of that hype by marketing their products as CBD when in reality, they are made with substances that are not derived from the cannabis plant. This puts both patients and the industry at risk. As Michael Bronstein, co-founder of American Trade Association for Cannabis and Hemp said, “This situation is akin to someone filling drinking bottles with gasoline and selling it under the label of ‘vodka’.
A year ago in Utah, the topic gained attention when 50 people became sick after consuming what they thought was CBD. It turned out that the product they had been using was mislabeled—it was actually a product containing a synthetic cannabinoid called 4-cyano CUMYL-BUTINACA.
